In all our operations, we promote water conservation and rain water harvesting, as well as responsible and reasonable use of firewood and electricity. We also prioritise the preservation of natural habitat.
We have 2 areas of native primary equatorial forests. These provide sanctuary for local wildlife, as well as providing us with a sustainable source of clean water. This was achieved by sinking a pumped and lined borehole, which is fed by the rainwater falling on the tea growing higher up on the hills.
The water we pump from the borehole feeds the staff housing, the tea factory and the nursery. Due to the high rainfall of Uganda, the water table is kept consistent throughout the year.
In addition, we harvest rainwater from the factory roof and have underground storage tanks with a total capacity of 150.000 litres. This water is used mainly for washing and cleaning in the factory.
